760mph trains

This handout photo released by Tesla Motors on August 12, 2013 shows the concept drawing of the Hyperloop, a fast transport design unveiled August 12, 2013 by Elon Musk. A design for a super-fast transport system dubbed “Hyperloop” was set to be unveiled by inventor and entrepreneur Elon Musk. Musk, who heads electric carmaker Tesla Motors and private space exploration firm SpaceX, but said he is not planning a new venture. “We’re going to provide quite a detailed design,” he said last week. “And then invite critical feedback and see if people can find ways to improve it and then it can just be out there as an open source design that maybe can keep improving. And I don’t have any plans to execute it, because I must remain focused on SpaceX and Tesla.”

That’s the dream of PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk.

His Hyperloop system would see ‘train’ passengers travel at up to 760mph through a vacuum tube, propelled by compressed air and induction motors. A site has been chosen with the goal of starting test runs in two years. Once built, the loop will ferry passengers between San Francisco and LA in 35 minutes, compared to 7.5 hours by train.
